September is a Marian month of special significance. The Church celebrates the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (September 8) and the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows (September 15). It is a season that invites the faithful to enter deeply into the mystery of Mary’s maternal heart: a heart that rejoices at birth and suffers with the crucified Son. It is also the month that recalls one of Mary’s most extraordinary gifts to the Church: the Green Scapular, revealed in 1840.

When we look at a ladybug – that small red beetle with black dots – we rarely think there could be a spiritual story behind it. Yet this little insect, beloved by children and valued by farmers, has for centuries carried the nickname “Our Lady’s beetle”. Legend, tradition, and symbolism combine to make the ladybug not just part of nature, but also a small catechism of faith.

“Holiness is not the luxury of the few, but a simple duty for you and me.” — St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta

St. Teresa of Calcutta – patron of the humble and the poor

In today’s culture humility is often mistaken for weakness or lack of dignity. In the Church’s tradition, however, it is the foundation of holiness—a clear-eyed grasp of the truth about God, ourselves, and our neighbour. St. Teresa of Calcutta left us a List of Humility—fifteen simple yet demanding practices for daily sanctification. They are not abstract slogans but a practical examination of conscience and a plan for shaping the heart—in the family, at work, and in parish life.
